Rebecca Becicka received her B.S. in Fisheries Ecology from Oklahoma State University and is currently working as a research technician and Ph.D. candidate in Biological Marine Science at the University of Puerto Rico. Her investigation focuses on lionfish distribution in near and offshore habitats, specifically in relation to life history stage and habitat selection. She has been conducting visual surveys and sampling in Puerto Rico for the past 3 years as an AAUS diver under the guidance of Dr. Richard Appeldoorn. Rebecca is currently engaged in lionfish removals and distribution mapping at depths beyond recreational diver limitations, in hopes of improving management recommendations for controlling the lionfish invasion in the Caribbean and enhancing native fish stocks currently in decline.
